MAENGKET DANCE

Maengket Dance is a traditional dance from Minahasa, North Sulawesi, dating back hundreds of years. Originally, it was performed as an expression of gratitude after the rice harvest, when communities gathered to celebrate and thank God. The word “Maengket” comes from “engket,” meaning “to lift,” symbolizing spirit and unity. Over time, the dance evolved into a cultural performance presented at various traditional and ceremonial events.
