Tondano Lake

Lake Tondano is the largest lake in North Sulawesi, located in Minahasa Regency about 35–36 km from Manado at an elevation of around 600 meters above sea level. The lake covers approximately 4,200 hectares and is surrounded by mountains such as Mount Lembean, Kaweng, Tampusu, and Masarang.
Geologically, Lake Tondano was formed from an ancient volcanic caldera created by a massive eruption millions of years ago. The large basin produced by this eruption gradually filled with water, forming the lake that exists today.
Historically, the lake has been an important natural resource for the Minahasa community, supporting fishing, agriculture, and local livelihoods. Today, it is also a popular nature tourism destination known for its scenic landscapes and surrounding villages.
